SUMMARY

The Technical Accounting Manager will be responsible for performing accounting guidance research and position documentation as well as ensuring timely customer invoicing and revenue recognition compliance. Focus areas will include commodity transaction revenue recognition, derivative accounting, lease accounting, purchase price allocations, consolidations, and commodity inventories. In addition, the position will assist in the effective design, maintenance and documentation of internal controls.

Responsibilities

  • Address technical accounting matters, including the performance of authoritative literature research and creation of position documentation.
  • Review draft contracts and provide technical accounting analysis for complex transactions in accordance with USGAAP.
  • Ensure timely and accurate accounting for revenue recognition.
  • Manage team responsible for customer invoicing to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Compile ad hoc reports, summarizing trends, variances and key metrics in support of management and financial planning.
  • Remain current on new and upcoming accounting guidance issued by the FASB and SEC.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining accounting policies, process and internal controls consistent with USGAAP and Sarbanes Oxley Requirements.
  • Provide support to external auditors in conjunction with annual year-end audit and interim reviews, as well as SOX compliance.

Qualifications 

  • Certified Public Accountant.
  • 5+ years of experience in physical energy commodity accounting.
  • Technical accounting expertise, specifically the interpretation and application of ASC 330, ASC 606, ASC 815, and ASC 842.
  • Strong writing skills – Expertise in documenting technical accounting matters.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable taking initiative to develop and recommend solutions.
  • Innovative thinker who likes to improve processes.
  • Experience working with personnel outside of accounting in a collaborative manner.
  • Experience working with a global team in different time zones.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Microsoft Excel analytics capability, including pivot tables and data slicing.
