Summary

The Accounting and Settlements Lead is responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions related to commodity trading activities, including natural gas purchases, sales, transportation, storage, and imbalances and associated hedging activities. This role ensures accurate settlement with counter parties, reconciles accounts, and supports month-end close activities. The ideal candidate brings strong energy industry experience, particularly in midstream and trading operations, and possesses deep knowledge of natural gas scheduling, contracts, and revenue recognition

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily settlement process for natural gas transactions including physical and financial deals, capacity trades, and imbalances.
  • Oversee the accounting treatment of complex commercial transactions including structured deals, swaps, basis trades, and storage deals. Reconcile pipeline statements and counter parties’ invoices against internal records and scheduled volumes.
  • Resolve disputes related to pricing, quantities, tariffs, or imbalances by working closely with scheduling, trading, contracts, and commercial teams.
  • Ensure timely issuance of invoices and processing of payments for all counterparties, including marketers, utilities, and pipeline operators.
  • Lead the monthly and quarterly close processes for trading and transportation-related accounts, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure all revenue and expense transactions are accurately captured and recorded in accordance with GAAP and company policy.

  • Maintain strong documentation to support internal controls and compliance with SOX and regulatory audits.
  • Develop and implement process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of settlement and accounting functions.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the ETRM and ERP systems related to natural gas accounting and settlements.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
  • Experience in the energy sector, preferably in natural gas marketing, pipeline settlements, or midstream operations.
  • Deep understanding of natural gas transportation, storage, trading, contracts and revenue recognition
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, FERC, and other regulatory frameworks affecting the energy
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills; ability to manage and interpret large data
  • Proven ability to manage complex reconciliations and resolve discrepancies across multiple counterparties and systems.
